A Reconstructed
Life
are a series of self portraits revealing
my painful journey of losing my breasts and going through
reconstruction to become the person I used to be. They
articulate feelings of anger, pain and sadness as I share my
emotions openly on canvas so those who have been through a
similar experience will know they are not alone.
My paintings are titled such as “Why Me?”, and “
Reconstructed”, to that final question we have to ask ourselves
of “ Who Am I?”
I reached deep within myself, learned to paint, and then I
found the strength to tell my story through my paintings.
The pain still remains, mentally and physically, from severe
nerve and muscle damage, but the desire to paint drives me out
of bed daily.
I share with the world that beauty resides in us all despite
our scars and flaws. Painting has become my best pain medicine.
I share my paintings with the world at The Art of Surviving
exhibition every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
